Welcome to Mens Sana Fitness!
Hi there, I’m Rob Latimer, a certified personal training and a mental performance coach.
What does that mean? It means that in addition to being able to support you with the physical aspects of strength and fitness training, I can also support you with the motivation and commitment challenges that can often derail our efforts to get fit and healthy and/or your efforts to maximize your physical performance.
Life has a nasty habit of getting in the way of our plans and we all have demands on our time and energy that can sabotage even our best attempts at fitness. It’s very easy for “Man, I’m tired, I’ll hit the gym tomorrow” to become “Oof, I haven’t been to the gym in a month.” And that’s just the daily grind of life – we can also face injuries or family emergencies or illness or any number of life events that can disrupt our healthy habits for months or even years. That’s why it’s so important to establish health and fitness habits that work, even when life isn’t playing nice with us – and that’s where I can help.
In addition to being a certified personal trainer, I also have a M.A. in sport & exercise psychology. I can help you develop mental skills to help with motivation and commitment when you’re looking to start up a physical fitness routine and to help you optimize your performance once you’re ‘in the groove.’ Mental skills are just like any other skill: they require training and practice to learn – and no matter where they are now, you can improve them. If you’ve had trouble getting started with a fitness program or had trouble staying committed once you’ve started, I’m right there with you – one of the reasons I actually became a personal trainer was to help with my own commitment to fitness. And if you’re looking to maximize your physical performance for competition (whether that’s varsity sports or finally beating your best friend on the tennis court), I’ve been a competitive athlete and coach myself and have specialized training in performance enhancement for sport.
I know what it’s like to push yourself to excel *and* I know how hard it can be to get started or come back from injury or how frustrating it can be when you’ve been doing well for a while and have life knock you off your stride. Work with me and you’ll be working with someone who has expertise in physical fitness, someone who has expertise in the psychology of exercise, and someone who’s likely shared some of your experience in trying to stay fit and healthy for life.
So, whether you’re looking to get started with a fitness routine or looking to maximize your physical and mental performance, I have the experience and expertise to support you as you achieve your goals. Drop me a line today!
